The Greatest Success

 

Living for the Hereafter Without Neglecting This World

"But seek, through what ALLAH has given you, the Home of the Hereafter, and do not forget your share of this world."
(Qur'an 28:77)

Every generation is tempted to believe that this world is everything.

We spend years building careers, growing businesses, buying homes, upgrading our lifestyles, and planning our futures. While there is nothing inherently wrong with earning wealth or pursuing success, Islam constantly reminds us not to confuse the means with the destination.

The dunya is temporary.

The Akhirah is eternal.

The tragedy is not that we work for this world—the tragedy is when this world becomes the purpose of our lives.

This World Is Temporary

Life passes far more quickly than we imagine.

Every day, we hear of someone who unexpectedly returns to اللّٰهُ جَلَّ جَلَالُهُ. Some were young, others elderly. Some had plans for tomorrow that never came.

The Qur'an repeatedly reminds us that every soul will taste death.

Our careers, possessions, titles, and achievements will remain behind, while our deeds accompany us into the grave.

This realization is not meant to make us pessimistic.

It is meant to help us prioritize correctly.

Islam Does Not Reject Wealth

Sometimes people think choosing the Hereafter means abandoning worldly life.

This was never the way of the Prophet ﷺ.

Islam encourages earning halal income, supporting one's family, giving charity, building communities, and contributing positively to society.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"How excellent is righteous wealth for a righteous person."
(Musnad Ahmad – authenticated by many scholars)

The Companions رضي الله عنهم included successful merchants, farmers, and leaders.

Their wealth was never the problem.

Their hearts simply belonged to اللّٰهُ جَلَّ جَلَالُهُ, not to their possessions.

The dunya remained in their hands—not in their hearts.

What Should Be Our Priority?

The real question is not:

"Do I have wealth?"

The real question is:

"Does wealth have me?"

If losing money hurts us more than missing Salah...

If we worry more about our business than our relationship with ALLAH...

If our daily schedule leaves no room for Qur'an, dhikr, or serving Islam...

Then perhaps the balance needs to be restored.

The believer works hard in this world while keeping the Hereafter as the ultimate goal.

The Prophetic Standard

The Messenger of ALLAH ﷺ lived the most meaningful life in history.

Despite opportunities for luxury, he chose simplicity.

His concern was never accumulating wealth.

His concern was guiding humanity.

His mission transformed hearts, families, and civilizations—not through material success, but through faith, sincerity, and obedience to اللّٰهُ جَلَّ جَلَالُهُ.

This teaches us an important lesson:

Purpose creates lasting impact.

Possessions do not.

Rizq Comes From ALLAH

Many people sacrifice their prayers, family, and Islamic responsibilities because they fear losing income.

Yet the Qur'an reminds us:

"And there is no creature on earth except that upon ALLAH is its provision."
(Qur'an 11:6)

This does not mean we stop working.

Rather, we work while placing our trust (Tawakkul) in the One who controls all provision.

We pursue halal means, but we never believe that our employer, our clients, or our business alone sustain us.

Our Provider is اللّٰهُ جَلَّ جَلَالُهُ.

Every Skill Can Serve Islam

Whether you are a teacher...

A doctor...

A software developer...

A business owner...

A designer...

Or a content creator...

Your profession can become an act of worship when your intention is sincere and your work benefits people.

Technology is not the goal.

Money is not the goal.

Success is not the goal.

The pleasure of اللّٰهُ جَلَّ جَلَالُهُ is the goal.

Everything else becomes a means to reach it.

A Simple Question

If your phone breaks today...

How much would it affect you?

Now ask yourself:

How much does it affect you when you miss a prayer?

This simple comparison can reveal where our priorities truly lie.

The believer naturally feels concern for worldly losses.

But even greater concern should exist for losses that affect the Hereafter.

Live for Both Worlds—In the Right Order

Islam does not teach us to abandon the world.

It teaches us to put it in its proper place.

Work hard.

Earn halal.

Support your family.

Build businesses.

Learn new skills.

Benefit humanity.

But never forget why you were created.

When the Hereafter becomes your priority, the dunya becomes easier to manage.

As the Prophet ﷺ taught, whoever makes the Hereafter his primary concern, اللّٰهُ brings richness to his heart and gathers his affairs for him, while the world comes to him in the measure that has been decreed for him. (Jami' at-Tirmidhi 2465 – Hasan)

Final Reflection

The world is a trust.

Not a destination.

Use it.

Benefit from it.

But never allow it to distract you from the purpose for which you were created.

May اللّٰهُ جَلَّ جَلَالُهُ grant us beneficial knowledge, halal provision, sincere intentions, steadfastness upon His Deen, and success in both this world and the Hereafter.
