Having Good Expectations of ALLAAH: The Key to Faith, Hope, and Ease in Life
A believer should never fall into despair regarding ALLAAH,
nor should he complain about ALLAAH.
Whoever is engaged in the work of ALLAAH must maintain good expectations of Him.
A person’s heart should be firm upon this belief:
My ALLAAH is doing good for me.
My ALLAAH is showing kindness to me.
And He will continue to do so in the future.
He will guide me, support me, and grant me acceptance.
This positive expectation (ḥusn al-ẓann) is among the essential etiquettes of faith.
The Prophet ﷺ’s Final Advice: Think Well of ALLAAH
Jābir (رضي الله عنه) narrates that the Messenger of ALLAAH ﷺ said to him three days before his passing:
“O Jābir, be careful that death does not come to you
except in a state where you have the best expectations of your Lord.”
Meaning, a believer should be certain that:
My ALLAAH will deal with me with goodness.
My ALLAAH will help me.
My ALLAAH will grant me success.
Because ALLAAH deals with His servant according to the expectation he has of Him.
ALLAAH’s Promise: Dealings According to Expectation
ALLAAH says:
“I deal with My servant according to the expectation he has of Me.”
The court of ALLAAH is vast and magnificent.
No one can ever fully fulfill His right.
Out of His mercy, ALLAAH opened an easy path for His servants —
that He bases His dealings upon their expectations.
So reflect for a moment:
Is having good expectations difficult?
Is hoping in ALLAAH a burden?
If ALLAAH were to deal with us strictly by His greatness,
no one could stand.
Yet His favors are countless,
and His blessings are endless.
That is why we are taught to approach every matter
with good expectations of ALLAAH.
Life’s Trials and the Whisper of Despair
In this world, situations come upon a person:
hardships arrive,
illness comes,
financial and emotional constraints appear.
At such times, the human soul becomes anxious,
and Shayṭān uses this anxiety
to push a person toward despair.
This happens because a person is unaware of ALLAAH’s true greatness —
he does not recognize who ALLAAH truly is.
The Blessing of Da‘wah: Recognizing ALLAAH’s Greatness
One of the blessings of da‘wah is that it unveils the greatness of ALLAAH.
It reminds us:
The Lord to whom you are turning,
the Lord you worship,
the Lord you are inviting others toward —
how great, how merciful, and how near He truly is.
When a person recognizes ALLAAH’s greatness,
life’s matters become easier to bear.
Repentance and Forgiveness: The Door Back to ALLAAH
The path to ALLAAH is not complicated.
Seek forgiveness.
Repent sincerely.
Return to ALLAAH.
When a servant turns back, he realizes that ALLAAH is near,
extremely accepting,
and deeply attentive.
No physician,
no authority,
listens with such care
as ALLAAH listens to His servant.
The Love of ALLAAH: When Everything Belongs to Him
The matter of ALLAAH’s love is profound.
You know that when a person loves someone,
he gives everything for the one he loves.
Likewise, when a servant loves ALLAAH
and ALLAAH loves that servant in return,
ALLAAH Himself takes responsibility for that servant’s affairs.
ALLAAH’s Nearness: No Appointment Required
ALLAAH is very near.
There is no need for a specific time,
nor for intermediaries.
Whenever you wish,
however you wish,
present your request to ALLAAH.
He listens with happiness
and accepts with pleasure.
This is the majesty of ALLAAH.
Obedience and ALLAAH’s Response: “Labbayk”
When a servant obeys ALLAAH,
ALLAAH loves that obedience.
The servant calls out,
and from above comes the response:
“Labbayk, My servant — I am present.
Tell Me, what is your need?”
This is the immense bond
between ALLAAH and His servant.
Why Do Circumstances Worsen?
Today, many have forgotten
ALLAAH’s power,
the Hereafter,
and ALLAAH’s greatness.
When the responsibilities of life
are not fulfilled according to ALLAAH’s commands,
circumstances begin to deteriorate.
If ALLAAH is displeased,
He allows situations to worsen.
And if He is pleased,
He transforms them with ease.
Yet ALLAAH does not punish immediately.
First, He calls His servants:
“Return to Me.
Return to My commands.”
The True Cure for Worries
Worries descend from the heavens
and settle within hearts.
Every person’s worry
is according to his own capacity and standing.
The true cure for these worries is:
turning back to ALLAAH,
sincere repentance,
and seeking forgiveness for sins.
When ALLAAH forgives,
worries disappear,
and ALLAAH grants even more than before.
This is the cure —
the cure taught by Prophethood.
